Wisconsin Supper Club: Johnny Manhattan’s
One thing that distinguishes a good Wisconsin supper club like ours from other restaurants is the welcoming nature, the feeling that everybody belongs and nobody leaves as a stranger. Johnny Manhattan’s is your destination for the night.
On Fridays and Saturdays, we offer lovely fresh fish dinners such as trout, halibut, sea bass, grouper, and corvina. We have “made from scratch” pizza…and it’s delicious!
Our menu selections start at $16 to the mid $30’s. This includes our popular Italian dishes, prime cut steak, ribs, pork chops, veal, prime rib, fish and seafood. We also offer several higher-priced prime steaks and seafood that you will find in any great steak house. Our chefs use the highest quality ingredients available and chose to purchase the freshest fish and prime steaks on the market. And, unlike many other steakhouses, all of our dinner entrees include a salad and choice of potato, as we are not an “al a carte” restaurant.
History of Supper Clubs in Wisconsin
The Wisconsin supper club has a rich history that dates back to the 1920s. Many supper clubs are located off the beaten path, along the highways and byways of rural Wisconsin. What began as roadhouses for gangsters moving moonshine during Prohibition quickly transformed into thriving establishments. So when Prohibition was repealed, many of these existing eateries were among the first to receive liquor licenses.
The Wisconsin Supper Club experience must include an Old Fashioned, or possibly our famous Manhattan. The quaint, old-world charm of our bar room hearkens back to the early days of Hubertus, while mixologists serve both classic supper club drinks and craft cocktails. Most popular fruit-muddled cocktails, like some newer variants of the Old Fashioned, were created during Prohibition to mask the underlying flavor of the alcohol.
The building that houses Johnny Manhattan’s was built in 1865 at 3718 Hubertus Road. An addition to the original building was built in 1906. We opened our restaurant at the location in 1999, and added our new dining room in 2015. The additional space expanded our seating capacity from eighty-nine to almost two hundred.
We are proud to be your Wisconsin Supper Club of choice when visiting Hubertus as listed on travelwisconsin.com!
